Climate Change: Controversy?

If all of your information on climate change come from the popular media (newspaper, TV, etc) then you may believe there is "conflicting data" or "controversy among scientists" on climate change.

Take a look at this paper in the journal Science.

They reviewed all the papers in peer-reviewed, scientific literature from 1993-2003 with the subject of climate change - 928 papers all together. Of these, 75% supported the consensus view that human activities over the last 50 years has directly caused increase in greenhouse gas concentrations and been the cause of the observed warming trends. 25% took no position, and not a single paper was against the consensus position.

Why is it then that the popular media labels this a controversy?
