Public Disinformation

The AP is reporting that ExxonMobile spent $16 million dollars in a effort to "mislead the public by discrediting the science behind global warming." This report from the Union of Concerned Scientists mirrors similar claims by Britain's leading scientific academy, the Royal Society, which last September wrote the oil company asking it to halt support for groups that "misrepresented the science of climate change."

Is this one of the reasons why the public perception
is that there is scientific controversy?
